Caitlin DeSilvey | Introduction to Drop City

Journalism and communications student Mary-Jane Lewis speaks to Caitlin DeSilvey who talks about how she came across Drop City.

In 1965, four art and film students purchased a piece of land in Colorado with the intention to build a home for themselves. They did this by using their new found art concept called drop art. The houses were built from scraps they came across around the area and in junk yards. Their home became ‘Drop City’. On February 22nd, to a packed audience, Caitlin DeSilvey presented a film created by Joan Grossman.

The film tells the story of the four founding members of Drop City and the process of creating the famous artist community. Through a series of interviews and old clips of the group during the development of Drop City, the previous members look back on their youth and reveal the truth behind the challenges they faced.
